In sin I was conceived,
naked I entered ready the world to receive.
I clothed my sinful naked self
with garments of adultery lusts from every shelf.
I will leave the world naked having nothing.
Yet viler for I took sin’s ring,
I have nothing to bring,
except every evil conceivable thing,
to which my hands daily would cling.
O empty me O Lord of everything,
save me o loving righteous King,
clothe me with with His garment of righteousness,
that I might loudly sing:
While I once was yet a sinner He died,
He emptied himself, accursed, He was crucified.
Drinking the cup of God’s wrath,
to justify me from my bloodbath.
Come then you sinners with no merit,
flee from your lusts and evil desire
trust in Christ alone for then you will surely inherit,
life everlasting and heavenly attire.
That which no man can think nor ponder,
that which was a far off and yonder,
will fill your heart, that the gracious love you can see,
my Father has for sinners like you and me.
